Awliscombe Short Mat Bowls Club

The Awliscombe Short Mat Bowls club plays every Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm and from 7pm to 10:00pm at the Awliscombe Parish Hall (just 1.5 miles from Honiton on the A373 Cullompton Road).

If you don’t have any bowls, the club has a number of sets that you can try (no cost). No special clothing is necessary, except for footwear. . But if you don’t have bowling shoes, bring any flat soled slipper or you can play in socks or stocking feet.

It’s a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for people of all ages, and there’s always someone on hand to give you some tuition.

We don’t do ‘committees or a subscription. A 2-hour session is a straight £2 (£1 for under 16). This also includes a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit.

Just come along and have some fun. New members whether beginners or experienced players are always welcome

On the 9th March Awliscombe Short Mat Bowls Club held their Annual Dinner and 2011 Presentation Evening at the Sidmouth Arms in Upottery. Brian Holland, the Chairman, welcomed members and friends. All enjoyed a good evening and meal. Presentations were made to the following people from left to right, Brian Holland and June Elliot, McCarthy Mixed Pairs runner ups, Del Tegerdine Mens Singles runner up, Sue Marshall Ladies Singles winner, Linda Vince and Barry Sharp McCarthy Mixed Pairs winners, Mary Willmington Ladies Single runner up, Pauline Sharp Reg Parish Trophy runner up, and Alan Breens winner of both the Reg Parish Trophy and Mens Singles.

Two special presentations were made to June Elliot for the most improved bowler for the season and to Bridget Hallowes (accepted by Linda Vince in Bridget’s absence) for the ‘Wicked Wicker’, awarded to the best shot by an Awliscombe bowler in the East Devon SMB League.
